When the .NET universal top-level extension was first launched in 1985, along with the first domains on the World Wide Web, it was planned to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure establishments. Considering that there were no specific regulations about the usage of the top-level domain, though, dot NET domains were booked and used for different purposes and by quite a few people. This TLD is a good substitution for dot COM, particularly if the wanted domain with the latter TLD is not available for registration.
