Dot MOBI Domains
More and more people use mobile gadgets to access the World Wide Web, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is steadily increasing. To fulfill this demand, the entity that administrates the universal top-level extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the notion behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain terms. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be developed to be accessed properly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” created by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the .MOBI Registry. These involve how a website is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The requirements have raised some worries considering that the generic TLD is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to access a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be created in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Considering that the dot MOBI Registry does not sell domains directly, you can buy a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an existing domain, you can also move it over to our company if you get its EPP transfer authorization code from your current registrar firm. If you do that, you’ll be able to manage your domain(s) and hosting account from one and the same place – our Hepsia Control Panel interface.
