Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Started in 2001, the .NAME domain name extension is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are famous by. At first, just third-level registrations were possible, so if you wished to purchase john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level domain names remained operational.
